Eric Garner was an unarmed black guy asphyxiated to death by a police officer applying an illegal chokehold on him. Garner wasn't threatening to the cop, nor to the other four officer detaining him, apparently just because Garner was breaking up a fight, and had a history of selling untaxed cigarettes. Here's the story, by The Young Turks...
Garner repeatedly asks the policemen to leave him alone. Then the cops jump over him, and as officer Daniel Pantaleo chokes him, Garner warns him out loud "I can't breathe, I can't breathe", many times.
Everything was recorded on video. Yesterday a Grand Jury decided not to bring any charges on the officer that killed Garner. This is all so unbelievably unfair! And enormously sad. I can't watch Garner's detention without having tears coming to my eyes.
That is why I wanted to share some of the reactions to this story here.
