Cool Indian toycars by Centy

Clik here to view. I know little about the Indian scale model scene... nothing, really. There seems to have been really little from them in terms of diecast in the past, and now all their productions appears to be made of plastic, which would put them beyond the realm of "collectibles" for most people.

Sé muy poco sobre autos a escala en la India... en realidad, nada. Parece haber habido muy poco diecast indio en el pasado, y hoy por hoy entiendo que todo lo que hacen es en plástico, lo que muchos no coleccionan.

But I love to see the wide variety of models made by companies like Centy, which I now decided to share. Centy makes lots of toycars from what is popular in India, so most of them have never been made in scale before.
Pero me encanta la variedad de modelos que hacen empresas como Centy, la que decidí revisar ahora. Centy fabrica varios modelos populares en la India, muchos nunca antes vistos a escala.
Their older models look very plasticy, but still they are mostly well proportioned. And the latest cars are more detailed and they don't even look plastic in pictures (but they are).

Sus modelos más viejos se ven muy plásticos, pero aún ellos parecen bien proporcionados. Y los autos más recientes se ven detallados, y hasta disimulan muy bien que siguen siendo plásticos.

As you have been seeing here, there are models that are totally Indian, while others could well be exported. The Suzuki Baleno could be very popular in Chile, for instance. The same goes for others like the Fiat Palio, Suzuki Swift, Mahindra Scorpio or the XUV.

Most (all?) have pullback engines. The cars seem to be around 1:36 escale, and I imagine trucks and other vehicles fit that size in their specific scales. Here is the Hindustan Ambassador in video, where it is also say they cost only R$100, some 2 USD!

La mayoría (¿o todos?) tienen motores a fricción. Los autos parecen ser alrededor de escala 1:36, y me imagino que los vehículos más grandes se adaptan a ese tamaño. Arriba pueden ver un video que muestra el tamaño del Hindustan Ambassador. Ahí señalan que cuestan R$100, alrededor de sólo USD 2.

Comerciales chilenos, julio de 1994

Comerciales chilenos interesantes transmitidos durante el mundial de USA 94, incluyendo: Uno de Chevrolet, donde se nota que el vehículo es un GMC. Le sigue otro de una promoción de GM, donde salen los distintos modelos de Opel y Chevrolet vendidos en Chile por esos días. 

Y también hay uno de Philips, donde regalaban... ¡dos Opel Calibra! No me imaginaba que hubiera de esos autos en nuestro país.

"Don't get me wrong" en comercial de Ripley "My Life" (2015)

Este comercial me llamó la atención, porque usa un cover de una canción que me encanta "Don't Get Me Wrong" de The Pretenders. Lo pongo acá por si querían saber como se llamaba la canción, para que me cuenten quien interpreta esta versión, y para que si no lo conocieran escuchen la original, que es mil millones de veces mejor!

El comercial de Ripley es de su colección "My Life", otoño/invierno 2015.

Chum-Hum Hi, Corea del Sur en el Festival de Viña 1975

Chum-Hum Hi interpretando Isleta Desierta, en el Festival de Viña de 1975. Me sorprendió mucho saber de esta presencia coreana hace tanto tiempo en Chile, y más aún por el hecho de que parece muchos acá se acuerdan de esta canción. Salió en tercer lugar de la competencia, ganando Grecia.


(Recordé que quería publicar esta bonita canción después de ver la imagen/homenaje que hizo ProyectoSputnik en Instagram).

Hay otro video en Youtube con la participación coreana en el festival de 1979. Pueden verlo aquí: youtube.com/watch?v=5HWnAKnPpi4. La canción es "Un Día Hermoso Como Hoy" (꽃밭에서) interpretada por Jung Hoon-hee (정훈희).

Debe haber habido buenas relaciones entre Corea y Chile por ese entonces: fue a fines de los setenta que ocurrió la inmigración coreana que se centró en Patronato en Santiago.

Nueva imagen Coca-Cola Zero, Chile

1. ¿Existen máquinas expendedoras "touch"? Obviamente no tan geniales como en el comercial, pero alguna interacción simpática con una pantalla sería muy divertida. Las primeras dos veces.

2. Me sorprende el cambio de imagen de Coca-Cola Zero. Siento que la empresa se ha esforzado bastante en promover esta variante, ¿será que tiene poco éxito? 

Ponerle una etiqueta tan parecida a la de la Coca-Cola "real", parece casi sacrílego. ¿Pensará la Coca-Cola volver eventualmente su versión original en una sin azúcar? Suena imposible, pero en el mundo la demanda de bebidas azucaradas está bajando de forma alarmante. 

EDICIÓN: Coca-Cola expandirá el cambio de imagen que muestra el comercial para todas sus variedades, y el primer mercado sudamericano donde lo aplicará será Chile.

No veo razón suficiente para el cambio, creo que puede confundir a los consumidores, y tal vez también disminuya el valor especial de la Coca-Cola original. Obviamente la empresa ha tomado todo eso en cuenta, y luego de gastar millones de dólares en analizar todas las posibles implicancias, decidió que usar su imagen roja con blanco en todos sus productos era necesario y lucrativo.

Algo llamativo: Coca-Cola Zero tiene en Chile un Twitter oficial... que no han usado desde Mayo del año pasado. Curioso signo de desinterés para una marca tan importante.

Intérpretes japonesas en el Festival de Viña

El otro día le mostraba participantes de Corea del Sur en viejos festivales de la canción de Viña del Mar. También ha habido japonesas, ¡y muchas!

La más antigua que encontré es de 1976. Junko Yagami con una canción de su autoría, "I shall forget". ¡A la gente le encanta!


La presencia japonesa es constante. De 1978 es "Aunque no me resulte bien", de Yoko Shibata (el video aquí) -lindo su "Viva Chile!", y genial que sea karaoke la transmisión!-, y de 1979 es "Sueño color ambar", interpretada por Yuko Ichikawa, aquí: youtube.com/watch?v=b3r4xAkH9L0.

En Youtube también tenemos también a Satoko Shimonari (下成 佐登子), en 1981, con "Solitaria". Ella es famosa por interpretar las canciones de diversos anime, como Transformers. Más canciones suyas aquí.



Una de Transformers interpretada por Satoko: "Peace Again", primer ending de la serie original en Japón.


Y finalmente, aquí está Kayoko Noguchi interpretando "Sombras de amor", en 1983.

The Ambassador is dead!

I had no idea Hindustan had discontinued its Ambassador, the old Morris Oxford they had been making in India since 1958. It's production was ended in May 2014. Almost 60 years!

Autocar India does its own tribute here, road testing the different generations of the beloved "Amby".

Gatchaman Crowds is a new series based on the old Gatchaman from 1972. I knew those old series in Chile as "Fuerza G", from a US editing of Gatchaman called G Force there.

The 18-22 series by British Leyland were presented to the public on March 26th, 1975. The company was again in serious trouble, and the car was not very successful. But it surely looks unique!

To commemorate the anniversary, here are some fantastic films made by BL for its launch.

It first came out as an Austin, a Morris and a Wolseley (being the last Wolseley ever), but later they would all be sold just as Leyland Princess.



This is one of the surviving Wolseleys.
